Welcome to another weeknote! My naming system for these weeknotes has got to improve. I am writing this from Delhi, where I am visiting my in-laws (crazy). My week has been long and busy.
Work:
- A terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week for work. I was taken out by awful cramps for the first couple of days so I started off on a low. I was behind on what I wanted to do, what I needed to do, and what I didn't know I needed to do. I have since managed to catch up a bit by working on the weekend, but I still see long workdays ahead of me.
- I have really gotten into coding again! This is in the "What I wanted to do" section. I am only just finding my way around, but I am enjoying figuring out how all of this works, and I am also unfortunately enjoying not using any AI tools to code, which was the whole point of me starting coding anyway. I just have this feeling that it's not doing it right even though I don't know any better. Guilty until proven innocent.
Not-work
- I finally talked to a friend of a friend about learning music and I have set up a weekly music class where I will learn about music theory and other fun stuff! He also requested payment in the form of UX help for a learning tool, and I am beyond excited to be helping build something so cool.
- Awful week for work, but truly an exceptional week for movies. Since my last weeknote, I've watched Band Baaja Baaraat, Lady Bird, Michael, and The Devil Wears Prada 2. All bangers. Short reviews:
- Band Baaja Baaraat was vibrant and down-to-earth with some of the most likable protagonists I've seen in a Bollywood movie.
- Lady Bird was a rewatch, I'd initially watched it when I was 17 and "like, didn't really get what the big deal was, she seemed so normal". So I watched it again almost 10 years later and I LOVED it. Teenage angst dialled up to 11, annoying but endearing protagonist, Timothee Chalamet being his insufferable self. What more could you want?
- Michael got awful reviews from critics and I see their point, but I simply had too much fun in the last 15 mins. I came out of the theatre grinning like an idiot. I love a groovy soundtrack, what can I say ¯\(ツ)/¯
- The Devil Wears Prada 2 was great but not amazing, I liked the first one better.
Discoveries
- I've been playing more Splendor recently and I've found that in a 2 player game the only valid strategy is to assess nobles and high point cards and work towards that like you normally would, but after you start getting to the high point cards, BLOCK RELENTLESSLY. Assess your opponent's stack, predict their moves and goals, and steal as many as you can of cards that they want. Otherwise, it doesn't matter what strategy you have. If you don't block and steal you will lose.
- I have consistently had the worst theatre experience every time I've watched something in 4DX. This time it was Michael (not by choice) and I feel like I have no memory of the first half because I was constantly motion sick. I had to plant my feet firmly on the ground to be aware of any movement, otherwise I would feel nauseous and dizzy.
I better get back to work, my boss (me) is giving me the stinkeye (feeling guilt and mild panic). Thanks for dropping by!
