Greetings from Singapore. This is a very late weeknote for a very busy week from a very sick Nim.
Work
- Between travelling, packing, and my theoretical day off, I'm surprised I managed to get any work done at all. I did only the bare minimum this week, ended up working on the weekend (again), and even worked at the airport until the very last second before my boarding group was called. Disconnecting from work didn't feel like a sudden sigh of relief, it was a slow wander back to the ground.
- I did have to do actual design as a part of my work this week, like ground level aligning-things-on-Figma, and even though it was a rework of screens I made like 4 years ago, it still felt nice to lock in and play box-box after what felt like forever.
Not-work
- I coworked with people! On Tuesday I went to Recursive Coworking and it was really nice! I miss chit chatting with people in an office. It didn't help with the mountain of work I had to do though 😭
- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I was in Chennai for a wedding. It was the first time I have attended a South Indian wedding that wasn't a Tulu Brahmin wedding. I found the optional lunch on the muhurtham day fascinating because the lunch is the crown jewel of the weddings I've attended. Most interesting to me was the fake meat at the reception dinner; my mother-in-law confirmed that meat is strictly not served during weddings but there was a yam-pakoda-situation that looked suspiciously like prawn fry. It seemed like meat was missed by the crowd. Anyway, other than that, Chennai was Chennai like always: hot, humid, and consistently delivering the superior dosa experience (paper roast AND coconut-only white chutney? Sign me up!)
- As soon as I came back from Chennai I had to run a bunch of errands at home, including packing for 2 (!) upcoming trips. By the time the weekend was done I felt like 4-day-old spinach. The vacation this week could not have come any sooner.
